New Release: Onus

Onus_neweb

Onus is a bad day. A slump.

Surely the most gray and sad work that I ever made for this library. A step beyond melancholy, Onus tries to collect most of feelings and motivations that we can live in those times in which one is not quite right: from gloom to hope, anger, moments of simple contemplation.

When one collapses and at the same time want to get up and initiate change. When the head is going a mile a minute and yet one does not think of anything. This moments when you are blank and get great lucidity both.

Onus is melodic lines of strings and winds supported in electronic beds. With synths in the background and saturated drum machines. Guitars that appear suddenly, distant. There are broken rhythms and kicks that hit you. The result of mixing dark electronica with dramatic orchestral arrangements.
Influences… Actress, snowy beaches, silence, Arca, Haxam Cloak, Andy Stott, Ben Frost, Björk, Clark, wrong expectations, homesickness, cold snap, Theo Parrish, Herbert, violins and cellos, broken instruments, Hans Zimmer, Debussy, Britten, Shostakovich, Brian Eno, Johann Johannsson, Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto, hugs…

There are work orders that turn out fine and there are those that don’t. The latter, compositions fallen behind, are the ones populating betterwithmusic’s warehouse. A few end up published in the library, others are delivered in some portfolio. But the majority are kept safe, waiting for a second chance or a new suit.

One example is this “Something Epic”, once tailored for an online action game. It is also the last job I did with my “old” Nuendo.

Hans Zimmer wants you!

That’s the name of the campaign launched by “Bleeding Fingers”, a joint venture Between Extreme Music, the production music arm of Sony / ATV Music Publishing, and Academy Award ® winner Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions.

This is a competition seeking new talented composers. It’s certainly a great opportunity for all musicians/producers interested in image/sound and soundtracks, among whom I include myself .

The competition consists basicly in to do a remix , rethink and / or create a composition from an original work by Hans Zimmer. You only have to download the stem files and “reimagine , replay , recompose or revise to your heart ‘s content “, using at least one of them. This is the original:

The prize ? The prize includes the opportunity for full -time employment , including a full benefits package , plus the use of a fully equipped studio in Bleeding Fingers, brand new state of the art facility. Well, that’s what they say in the promotion. If you read the contest rules carefully, you’ll realize that actually the participants opt to a “little” stay of three days in LA, and an interview that may or may not result in a job offer. Anyway, it is still a good chance.

I’ve opted for the vocal stem. From it , and following the steps of the original track, and Zimmer’s manual ( epic horns , percussion … ), I composed this piece. Hope you enjoy it.

Mr. Zimmer, there goes my proposal !
